Tips for Improving Your Group Personal Training Classes
Present-day
personal training courses are not the same as they used to be – say around 20 years ago. To this end as a
personal trainer, you need to improve the standards and techniques used during classes if you want to stay ‘top of the line’ in the business.
Given below are some tips to help you improve your image and workout standards:
The personal touch
Instead of treating your clients as a group where you recognise just bodies and movements, try and develop more personal interaction with them.
You should be able to greet them by name, and help even in small ways with any modifications they require during the workouts.
Some people like to indulge in social interaction so an extra friendly nod in appreciation of their efforts would help.
Other participants could be the competitive type. In such cases too clients would look forward to encouragement and appreciation.
There is another group who might like to be in the background all the time, getting their encouragement and satisfaction by following the front-runners. With such a mix of clients you would do well to study each one’s physical and mental requirements. It would help immensely to ratchet up the popularity of your training.
When planning makes the difference
Only if you make a proper plan can any project succeed. So in the case of personal training classes you should make a proper plan.
Go through whatever latest information you can get hold of and revamp your ideas, tools and techniques.
Your knowledge and expertise definitely would need upgrading. You could also attend conventions or watch the latest workout shows on television.
The idea is to constantly keep upgrading.
Once you have all the information you need in hand you can plan how to successfully run the classes.
To know whether you have succeeded or not, reflect on the reaction of the clients – where they satisfied? Did they have any doubts or problems? If so you should plan on how to sort out any such wrinkles in the next session.
Systematic education
During each workout your clients should be made aware that what they are doing i.e. exercising for strength, endurance, stabilisation,
flexibility etc. are all necessary for them to achieve their individual goals.
Clients should also be informed of complementary resources and workouts, and the importance of proper sleep, healthy diets and reduction in stress.
Not every client is the same. So approach each client’s requirements per their needs so they can benefit individually.
Feeling of achievement
When a client leaves the gym he or she should feel positive after doing the workout. This will make the client more committed to returning for the next session.
Each client is different so you need to have a different approach for each one to help them believe they are making progress and getting nearer to achieving their goals.
